Western Australia (WA) Police Force has announced (June 1) it is trialling a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle for potential future frontline policing applications.
The police force has received a Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, which has been fitted with WA Police Force branding, police radio, lights, and sirens.
Set to be tested in an operational environment in the Fremantle District of Perth, the hydrogen-powered police car signals the force’s intent of meeting the Western Australian Climate Policy.
Allan Adams, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Western Australia Police Force, said, “The WA Police Force has initiated research and testing of ‘green’ vehicles that may be suitable for operational policing,”
