Presentation Title Electrocatalysis of Hydrogen Technologies
Abstract

Electrified solid-liquid interfaces of catalytic materials orchestrate the conversion of free electrons to molecular bonds and back. That is why they play such a key role for the performance of electrochemical energy conversion devices such as water electrolyzers and hydrogen fuel cells.
This talk will highlight advances, challenges and prospects in the quest and development of ever improved electrocatalysts and electrodes for hydrogen-based electrolysis and fuel cell technologies.

Sketch
Peter Strasser is the chaired professor of “Electrochemistry and Electrocatalysis” in the Chemical Engineering Division of the Department of Chemistry at the Technical University Berlin. Prior to that, he served as Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Houston, and, before that, as Senior Scientist at Symyx Technologies inc. working on Combinatorial and High Throughput Discovery of new catalysts. He obtained his PhD in “Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry” from the Fritz-Haber-Institute of the Max-Planck-Society under Gerhard Ertl in Berlin. He received the Christian Schönbein Gold Medal award (2021), the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Faraday Medal (2021), the ISE Brian Conway Prize in Physical Electrochemistry (2021), the IAHE Sir William Grove award in hydrogen research (2018) and the Otto-Roelen medal in Catalysis by the German Catalysis Society (2016). Since 2018, he has been listed as one of the world’s “Highly Cited Researcher”.
